The Stitches

There are literally hundreds of stitches and variations of stitches used in needlework. The  embroidery, needlepoint and sewing stitches on the NeedleKnowledge® site have been organized by type and category, making them easy to find.

This section features links to the pages containing diagrams for working a wide variety of basic hand embroidery and specialty embroidery stitches, as well as counted cross stitch & counted thread, needlepoint and general sewing. Use them as a guide for selecting stitches when working on your projects – or select one of our many Free Patterns and Projects here on the site.

Click the category below to view the stitches and the variations of the stitches featured on the site. Please note that a stitch may appear in more than one area, depending on its use.

This section – as well as the entire site – is a work in progress. If you don’t see the stitch you’re looking for, use the form below and I’ll add it to the proper section(s). Because stitching is always evolving, this area will always be a work in progress.

NOTE: This site is optimized for mobile use. This means that as long as you can access this site from your smart phone, you have access to the stitches. There’s no need to download or pay for an app!
