Red Quaker Sampler in Cross Stitch

Stitch this classic two-tone sampler cross stitch and back stitch, exclusive to NeedleKnowledge®. The pattern uses just two colors of floss, so it can be easily adapted to your favorite color palette.  The finished size of the sampler is 12×16″ when worked on 14-count Aida, or 11×14″ when worked on 16-count Aida.

The individual elements of the design can also be used for other projects. Use the borders on a towel or bookmark, use the alphabet to personalize an item, or use on the single, square elements to make a pin cushion or biscornu. This free cross stitch pattern offers so many possibilities!

Additional freebies are available on the patterns & projects page, or visit the blog and sign up for the newsletter. That way you’ll never miss a free pattern!

Materials Needed:
  • 2 skeins each of floss in a light and dark tone
  • Aida cloth 22×26″ in 14-count or 20×22″ in 16-count
  • tapestry needle
Directions:

Download the Red Quaker Sampler Pattern – the pattern is provided as a 6-page pdf.

Overcast the edges of the Aida fabric to prevent raveling. Work the design in cross stitch following the charted pattern. The pattern is given in quadrants due to its size, and it’s best to start at the center of the design and stitch outwards.

Use two strands of floss in your needle for all cross stitch and a single strand for all back stitch. Refer to the cross stitch page for directions on working the stitches.
