Stitch the Keren Middle Eastern inspired needlepoint project on mono canvas in basic continental or basketweave tent stitches. Eight colors of tapestry wool are used in this project, and while easy to stitch, the pattern is intended for intermediate stitchers due to the number of color changes that are required while following the charted design.
The sample is finished as a pillow, but it would also be pretty finished as a bag front. This project has since been passed along to a lovely stitcher in northern California who will be giving it as a gift to her son and his new bride. I love it when my sample projects find a home!
The needlepoint design measures 5×5 inches when worked as follows. For easy ordering of the threads used in the project, click the color numbers.
- Zweigart 14-mesh mono canvas, 10×10”

Download the Keren Needlepoint Pattern. Following the charted design on the pattern page, work the entire design in Continental or Basketweave Stitch (tent stitch), following the charted graph. One square on the graph is equal to one stitch on the needlepoint canvas.
The charted design can also be worked in Counted Cross Stitch on 14-count Aida.
