Autumn Acorn Medallion in Cross Stitch

Free Cross Stitch Pattern - Autumn AcornCelebrate Autumn by stitching this pretty acorn and leaf medallion. The completed embroidery design can be finished as an ornament or as a biscornu – you can even frame it if you prefer. The design is worked in basic cross stitch, with the tendril accents worked in back stitch. It’s quick and easy to stitch and is perfect for the beginning stitcher.

The finished size of the design is approximately 4×4 inches when stitched on 14 Count Aida. I made my own matching trim using leftover bits of the same three colors floss used in the project.

Materials Needed:
  • 6-strand embroidery floss in the colors indicated below
  • 10×10” piece of DMC CR5440-6750 Classic Reserve Aida, 12 by 18-Inch, White, 14 Count
  • DMC 1767-26 Tapestry Hand Needles, 6-Pack, Size 26
Directions for Working the Cross Stitch Pattern:

Download the charted Autumn Acorn Medallion PDF Pattern. Work the design in cross stitch using the charted pattern, using 2 strands of floss in your needle. Use a single strand of the dark pine green floss, work the lines in the pattern in all back stitch.

Finish as desired, or make the piece into an ornament, like I’ve done in the sample.
