Stitch of the Week – Eggs in a Basket

Eggs in a BasketTo celebrate Easter – and to kick off the stitch of the week series – I’m featuring Eggs in a Basket as our stitch this week.

This colorful needlepoint stitch is worked similarly to other basic Arrowhead Stitches, but instead of an arrow of single tent stitches next to the diagonal triangle, the tent stitches are worked in a variety of Spring colors. The result resembles a basket full of brightly dyed eggs.

In my sample I’ve worked the basket area in a light brown, and filled each basket with solid-colored eggs.  A beautiful (and easy) alternative would be to use an over-dyed thread in bright Spring colors instead. Then you wouldn’t have to pay attention to the color changes in the egg area and let the thread do the work!

Enjoy!
